Zac MacMath will have a new back up tonight, after the Philadelphia Union signed Harrisburg City Islanders goalkeeper Chase Harrison. Per team rules, the terms and transfer fee of the deal were not disclosed.
Harrison was likely signed by the Union through MLS' "extreme hardship call up" option. 2011 MLS Roster Rules allow for teams that have less than two available players on their active roster to sign a goalkeeper on a game-by-game basis at any point during the season, including after the late season roster freeze comes into effect.
Third string goalkeeper Thorne Holder is out with a concussion, and normal starter Faryd Mondragon is still recovering from a finger injury, leaving MacMath and Harrison as the only goalkeepers currently on the Union's roster. Other Union players are also nursing injuries, as Freddy Adu is out with an ankle strain, Danny Mwanga is doubtful with a hip strain, Justin is also doubtful and Veljko Paunovic is probable.
