So some Spanish language media reports that Carlos Ruiz was in Mexico. Now it is certainly no secret that I have very publicly not been a fan of the Guatemalan. So when I was reading the story something inside started to stir. My reaction to the news surprised me.

While the Philadelphia Union didn’t pick up the three points they set out to claim, the road point they did pick up said a lot about the team.

One of the most attack-minded right backs in the league who is just as effective defending — none of the DC goals came from his flank.
Peter Nowak’s left brain wants the Union to be a pragmatic, shut-it-down, 1-0-win-every-week kind of team. His right brain is still looking for playmakers, tinkering with adding more attackers, and trying to get four forwards on the field at once. If he can balance the two, the Union will win the East.
Since giving up the lead in the second half against Real Salt Lake, the Philadelphia Union have found themselves ahead on the scoreboard for all of eight minutes.
