Colombian newspaper El Pais is reporting that Andrés Ramiro 'Manga' Escobar will stay with Deportivo Cali, in Colombia, for the remainder of the season.
The 19-year-old left winger was not able to to finalize an agreement with MLS or one of its teams in order to move to America. Helmuth Wenin, Escobar's agent, decried the wall of time that his client was up against to complete a transfer. The MLS transfer window closes at 12:01 am tonight (Saturday, April 16, 2011). Wenin said on the matter:
"There was some delay on the part of the clubs concerned, we took the time and well, could not give the situation, unfortunately. There is nothing to do," he added.
Escobar is set to finish out the season with Cali, after his Colombia u20 team failed to progress onward and teams looking at him in Portugal and Italy did not pursue him. Wenin, however, somewhat mysteriously had this to say about the failed MLS negotiations:
"This half of the year opens the transfer books in Europe, Argentina, Mexico and everywhere [else]," said Wenin.
