The Philadelphia Union defeated the University of South Florida in a preseason friendly on Thursday by a score of 2-0. It was the Union's second tune-up game as they gear up for the season opener on March 19 in Houston.
Sebastien Le Toux scored the first goal for Philadelphia in the 19th minute off an assist from Justin Mapp. It was his second goal of the preseason. Danny Mwanga capped the scoring in the 33rd minute with some help from Le Toux.
While the team did not release lineups for the game, there were some photos from the friendly that were published on Facebook. Apart from Le Toux, Mapp, and Mwanga, several other players also appear in the match photos, including Brian Carroll, Stefani Miglioranzi, Roger Torres, Carlos Valdes, Michael Orozco-Fiscal, Sheanon Williams, and Nick Zimmerman. Zach Pfeffer also made his first (unofficial) appearance in a Union jersey.
Both Gabriel and Michael Farfan also appeared in the photos. Michael was selected by the team in the second round of the 2011 SuperDraft; he was seen wearing the #26 jersey, formerly of Cristian Arrieta. Gabriel is presumably with the team on trial, although nothing has been officially confirmed by the club.
The Union will return to the field Sunday against the University of Central Florida, before taking on Orlando City FC on February 19. The club has not yet released details of their preseason plans following the friendly against Orlando.
