The Philadelphia Union made the second move of the pre-expansion draft trade window, bringing 29 year old midfielder Brian Carroll in from the Columbus Crew.
In exchange for Carroll, the Union give up a conditional 2nd round pick in the 2011 SuperDraft and allocation money. #MLS #DOOP
Carroll is a defensive minded midfielder who has, in the past, helped the Crew to two MLS Cup titles and four Supporters Shield trophies. Still relatively young, Carroll is thought of highly by Union coach Piotr Nowak:
"I think we all know Brian Carroll's qualities from the past seasons with D.C. United and Columbus." - Nowak
The Union gave up their late second round natural selection spot, which will be the 28th overall selection in the 2011 MLS Superdraft. Along with the pick, the Union sent the Crew a minor amount of allocation money.
In 205 games with DC United and the Crew, Carroll scored 4 goals. Caroll has 8 caps at the international level for the United States Men's National Team and also featured 3 times for the USMNT's under-20 national squad.
