El Pais: Deportivo Cali Coach Rules Out Carlos Valdes Loan Move

The Cali based club reportedly entered the Carlos Valdes sweepstakes yesterday, yet appear to already have removed themselves from a chance at bringing in the defender.

Teams seem to be falling by the wayside in the hunt for Carlos Valdes on loan.

Boca Juniors and Nacional (of Uruguay) dropped out after acquiring other center defenders in the past two days. Now Deportivo Cali, who entered the discussion yesterday, reportedly also have retracted their interest in Valdes.

Cali, who are the rivals of Valdes' former club America de Cali, hoped to acquire Valdes with an eleventh hour bid - or statement of interest - to bringing him to the team on loan.

Despite some reported influence from former teammate Faryd Mondragon, the deal most likely fell apart because of pressure of Colombian national team head coach Jose Pekerman's focus on him playing in Copa Libertadores.

Valdes' family also played a major role in his dismissal of interest from Cali, according to

El Pais' Colombian news site.

Coach Leonel Alvarez completely ruled arrival of defender Carlos Valdes to Deportivo Cali for the Postobón League in 2013.

The announcement was made by the 'Betis' helmsman at a press conference, after Cali training, Friday morning at the home arena of Pance.

It was learned that the Cali trainer met on Thursday with the defender, where Valdés informed Alvarez that it was a family decision to not stay in the capital of Valle.

Santa Fe, the team that Valdes was loaned to, and purchased from, the Philadelphia Union from, were the only team known to remain interested in getting the defender on loan.
