DREXEL HILL, PA – May 18, 2013
Junior Lone Star FC has started the 2014 season with a bang after Jerome Pour’s 63rd minute goal secured another 2-1 home victory, this time over the Clarkstown SC Eagles on Saturday, May 17th at the Monsignor Bonner High School Stadium in Drexel Hill, PA.
The Stars, who have lost their first two matches in the past two seasons, made their intentions known as early as the 10th minute when Seydou Ba found himself free on goal but his powerful shot was saved by Andrew Tartara in goal for the Eagles.
In the 23rd minute, the Eagles were forced to make a substitution after Rengifo sustained a hamstring injury. Moriken Sangary took his place and he instantly became a threat to the Stars with his mazy run. Upon his introduction, Sangary had enough time and space for his shot but it was easily saved by Damilare Adeleye in goal for the Stars.
The Stars had a game plan to sit back, absorb pressure, and hit the Eagles on the counter-attack which definitely paid off in the 40th minute. The Eagles had a corner which was cleared easily by Fatoma Turay who sent a through pass to Isaac Jardiah who sidestepped two defenders before swerving the ball in the top right corner of the net to put the Stars ahead 1-0 before half-time.
Both teams came after the break un-changed although the Stars came back with more urgency and Seydou Ba had the ball in the back of the net in the 46th minute, just like the previous game against the Shock on opening day, but it was called back for offside.
Ten minutes later, the Eagles equalized from a corner kick. Adeleye came off his lines to clear the ball in the air but the ball landed at the feet of Bardic who volleyed into the back of the empty net to tie the score 1-1 for the Eagles in the 55th minute.
Eight minutes later after conceding the equalizer, the Stars were back in front when a cross from Amadou Sheriff on the right went through the hands of Tartara for Jerome Pour to have a simple tap-in for his second goal of the season in the 63rd minute.
The Eagles tried desperately to equalize for the second time, but the Stars held on for a memorable 2-1 win.
The Stars (2-0-0) will look to secure their third successive win of the 2014 season when they travel to East Stroudsburg, PA to play Pocono Snow SC on Wednesday, May 28th at 7:30pm before hosting the 2013 Keystone Conference Champions Greater Binghamton FC Thunder on Saturday, May 31st at 5:00pm at the Monsignor Bonner High School Stadium.
