Last weekend at the YSC Sports Complex in Wayne, PA, the Philadelphia Union opened their academy regular season by sweeping the Richmond Kickers and Richmond Strikers. Over the six matches played over two days, the three academy units scored an astounding 30 goals and allowed only two.
The oldest batch of potential Doopers opened each day with 6-0 routs over their Richmond counterparts. Spencer Reinford and Zach Zandi each added 3 goals, while Brandon Levano scored a goal in each game, including the first goal in the Academy's history on Saturday against the Kickers. Cameron Keys, one of the top goalkeepers in the nation in his age group, managed two shutouts his first two starts. The U17/18s next match is Saturday in West Windsor, NJ against Match Fit Academy.
Currently the 5th ranked club in the country among U16s, the Union under-sixteeners notched 3-0 and 4-1 wins over the Kickers and Strikers respectively. Striker Isaiah Young set the tone both days by scoring within the first five minutes of each match and totalling 3 goals over the 2 days. Sierra Leonean nation Abu Winter scored a goal in each match. Forward Dawson McCartney, ranked 34th in the IMG Top 150 for the Class of 2016, came on as a 2nd half sub sub in both matches. The U15/16s next match is Saturday in West Windsor, NJ against Match Fit Academy.
The middle-schoolers opened with a 3-1 win over the Kickers, but then torched the Strikers the next day in a 8-0 win. Colombian Juan Infante scored 4 goals in the Sunday blowout, while Colin Brezniak scored a brace against the Kickers. The U13/14s have a bye week this Saturday, but they return to the YSC Sports Academy on September 21st against Soccer Association of Columbia.
