Breaking News reports Carlos Valdes will return to the Philadelphia Union "next week"

Jack McInerney Named To 2013 MLS All-Star Team

With Tim Cahill ruled out due to injury, Peter Vermes has replaced the New York Red Bulls midfielder with Philadelphia Union's own Jack McInerney

Jack McInerney continues to see his just rewards for a hot start to the season. First he got to train with Jurgen Klinsmann and the USMNT during the group stage of the CONCACAF Gold Cup and now he has been named to the 2013 MLS All-Star team that will face AS Roma, including U.S. midifielder Michael Bradley, Wednesday night in Kansas City.

Okay, I'm calm again. No wait, I'm not.

Okay. We are good. I swear.

Look, the All-Star game is simply a glorified friendly against superior European opposition looking to tune up for the season. There is no pride in winning these things, and no shame in losing them. But after being drafted by the Union in their inaugural season and having a breakout year in 2013 at age 20, it is exciting to see McInerney get the credit and recognition he deserves, and hopefully maybe even some playing time against a top flight European side*.

*From Manchester United twice in a row to Chelsea coming off a Champions league victory to Roma coming off a season where they placed 6th in a weakening Serie A. Quality of competition going downhill quickly here.

Despite being on a five match goalless streak, Jack McInerney is still among the top 5 in goals scored this season and his omission from the initial All-Star roster was seen as a snub by some. Well snubbed no more due to the injury suffered by Tim Cahill, McInerney, who was allowed to join the USMNT's victory celebration in Chicago, will soon travel to join the All-Stars in Kansas City.
