After their first pick in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft ended up a bit differently than most fans had hoped, the Philadelphia Union once again went against the idea of a left back by selecting Stephen Okai.

The Ghanaian born midfielder played at the University of Mobile in the NAIA and succeeded in turning many heads during his time in the lower division of collegiate soccer. He also played for Union assistant coach Brendan Burke at Reading United AC.

Okai made a name for himself as a box to box midfielder in college and at Reading United. He played in a Yaya Toure on Manchester City sort of role, providing some ball winning ability out of the middle, while also rushing up the field to participate or start the attack.

The selection of Okai will allow Amobi Okugo to stay at center back if John Hackworth so chooses to utilize the midfielder in that role for the second straight year.

Philadelphia moved back two spots, to the 31st pick, after a trade with Real Salt Lake that gave them two additional picks in next week's 2013 MLS Supplemental Draft.
