MLS SuperDraft 2013: Philadelphia Union Select Don Anding With The 26th Overall Pick

The Philadelphia Union made Don Anding the newest member of the team with the 26th overall selection in the 2013 MLS SuperDraft.

The Philadelphia Union seem to love them.

Don Anding was made the newest member of the Union after the club selected him with the seventh pick of the second round, 26th overall. The forward played for Northeastern University during his collegiate career.

The 21-year-old is considered the fastest player in the Major League Soccer SuperDraft this year and can play at either left wing or left back, according to his Northeastern website bio. However, most scouting sites regard him as a forward.

According to, scouts had the following to say about Anding:

"Lightning fast forward. Can change a game with his pace ... Doubt if there's a quicker player than him in the Combine ... Dynamic and very quick with the ball in his first couple of steps ... Back to goal he's average, in air he's good, not bad ... If you put ball into his grasp, he's the quickest kid around ... His work rate is tremendous, too ... Technically a little choppy at times but makes up for it with his speed ... As a winger he may not have the soccer IQ to man the position ... If you can play him through, no one is going to catch him ... Has played at left back, left winger, but his best spot when he leads the line up top ... MLS teams are probably looking at him playing out wide which means they have to evalute his ability to serve the ball and whip balls in ... Best spot is probably up top, but in MLS he's probably a left winger or an attack-minded left fullback ..."

Despite the Brotherly Game being told by a source that the Union tried to move up for Deshorn Brown, the selection of a forward came as a surprise to most following the Union. Anding will join a forward group consisting of Chandler Hoffman, Antoine Hoppenot and Jack McInerney, along with Sebastien Le Toux and Conor Casey.
