Keon Daniel Joins Union In Florida, Two Supplemental Picks Not Invited
The Philadelphia Union announced that Keon Daniel, along with Danny Mwanga, has joined the team at its preseason training camp in Florida today.
The 25-year-old has been missing from the Union since a September call up to the Trinidad and Tobago national team. Daniel left the United States on August 28 or 29, then did not re-enter the country until possibly today.
Visa problems forced the midfielder to remain in his home country as the 2011 MLS season came to a close and the playoffs approached. By the end of 2011 there were questions of whether or not Daniel would return to the team, despite being a part of the team's Expansion Draft protection list.
Daniel's importance with the Union for the upcoming season is unknown, but a starting role is not out of the question. The Tobogon international had nine starts in 18 games with the Union last year.
The Union also welcomed back Mwanga, while Tom Brandt and Brandon Zimmerman, both 2012 Supplemental Draft picks, were not invited to continue to train with the team.

Low Picks
Union picks beyond the 2nd round of the SuperDraft so far:
’10: Kyle Nakazawa, Brian Perk
’11: Levi Houapeu, Ryan Richter. Josh Walburn, Matthew Marcin
’12: Tom Brandt, Krystian Witkowski, Antoine Hoppenot, Brandon Zimmerman
There only seem to be one or two lower round / supplemental players league-wide that really stick.

i thought houapeu would stick, but with his injury last season i guess they didn’t see enough of him to have him keep a roster spot.
1. Flyers 2. Union 3. Tottenham 4. Eagles
Could also have to do with the international roster restrictions, Union needed to cut him loose to make room. We were 3 over the limit not too long ago.

He should have a green card by now...
though the hold up on it is still unknown.

Power to the people!
The “Free Keon” movement has been succesful!
The news of Keon being back took away some of the sting my daughter felt at losing Le Toux and Mondy. She has declared Keon as her new favorite player on the team. (She has decided that Le Toux is still her favorite, overall; and that she’s going to continue to follow his career. She’s hoping he scores a hat trick March 31st and the U win 4-3, because – as she put it – she’ll get to doop 7 times that way.)
Ah, the exuberance of youth…
