At a conference call Monday afternoon, Zac MacMath talked to reporters about his first half in MLS, how he found out he was going in, and what he needs to do to help the team reach the playoffs.

Well, we came up short again in Salt Lake. Like we talked about in the last post, we were missing some key players and I think in the end, that’s what did us in. There was a very specific instance where Miglioranzi attempted to clear the ball and ended up hitting an RSL guy in the face, which allowed him to have an open run in our net. Luckily, one of our favorite Colombians is a beast in goal and was able to stop us from going down by yet another goal.

Despite the roster changes over the course of the season, many of the same problems that were apparent in May are still rearing their ugly heads:

With a crucial stretch of the MLS season glaring down upon them and an injury to starting goalkeeper and captain Faryd Mondragon now weighing down their climb back to the top of the Eastern Conference, for the next few weeks, the fate of the Union’s quest for the postseason could rest on the shoulders of 20-year-old rookie goalie Zac MacMath.
