Costa Rica Vs USMNT - News, Notes, Line Up, TV Information And GameThread

CARSON, CA - AUGUST 31: Midfielder Landon Donovan (L) and Sacha Kljestan of US Men's National Team wave at cheering fans during training at The Home Depot Center on August 31, 2011 in Carson, California. United States will play Costa Rica in friendly soccer match on Friday. (Photo by Kevork Djansezian/Getty Images)

What: The United States Men's National Team (USMNT) is hosting the Costa Rican National Team at the Home Depot Center in  Los Angeles, California tonight in an international friendly.

When/Where: 11:20 pm on ESPN 2. Andy Roddick and some guy with the last name of "Sock" are currently playing in the second set of their tennis match on ESPN 2. If their game goes into, and past, 11 pm the channel will not switch to the USMNT per ESPN policy.

Line ups: USMNT lineup v. CRC: Howard; Chandler, Orozco Fiscal, Bocanegra (c), Castillo; Donovan, Edu, Torres; Rogers, Altidore, Shea; Subs tonight: Hamid, Goodson, Spector, Larentowicz, Kljestan, Ream Agudelo

US Soccer is listing the line up as a 4-3-3, which is interesting given the USMNT's recent history as a rather defensive side. Jurgen Klinsmann has revamped the line up, which features some MLS mainstays (Donovan, Rogers and Shea). It's good to see Altidore get the start, as his form has been take nice so far into his stay in the Netherlands. Perhaps he'll re-find his national team form that he had in 2009.

CRC lineup: Navas; Johnson, Umaña, Acosta, Miller; Barrantes, Azofeifa, Sanchez, Martinez, Saborio, Brenes

Feel free to comment below and enjoy the game.

DCU's Chris Pontius isn't playing, nor is he on the bench.

Too bad.

agreed.

I think Pontius has a bright future (barring injury). I think he’d fit well in England, but it’s unlikely he’ll get the caps to qualify for the work permit.

Maybe he'll get his chance and keep playing int'lly.

Who knows with Jurgen.

I suppose if Findley can get it done, Pontius can.

We're set to start soon. 11:20 was the announced kickoff time.

Shea with the lightest of touches to Donovan, who puts it just wide of the left post.

Altidore fights off a defender to hit the side netting. Lively.

Is it just me or does Edgar Castillo look like the guy from Oz?

Saborio nearly puts the ball in far post, but there was a foul called anyway.

Donovan hits the top of the netting of the goal on a freekick from about 25-30 out. Almost.

Edu instead of Ricardo Clark is why I already like Jurgen better than Bob.

And it’s Josue Martinez that receives the first yellow card of the game.

Andddddddddd Rodgers can’t even cross on his natural foot from the left side of the field. Ugh.

Donovan gets sent forward, runs straight at the defense and passes it at a defender instead of Altidore.

Halftime – 0:0 despite the USMNT dominating the first 20 minutes or so.

This game is a lot like the Union’s game against FC Dallas away this season… Oy.
