justin, where do you find the exact kickoff times? this site seems to be the only place to list precise kickoff times so i’m just wondering where you get them
Haha, they’re tucked away in the Union’s official game notes that they submit to MLS for distribution to press (and they’re also available on MLSsoccer.com website in PDF form).

Ben gets them from the Union’s official game notes, and I copy and paste from Ben’s match preview.

The team is involved in a complicated, multi-player deal with multiple teams outside of MLS.
Intrepid reporter/play-by-play announcer JP Dellacamera got that quote from Nick Sakiewicz.

I will never be a fan of announcers calling matches from a studio away from the stadium. It takes something away from the broadcast.

Tannenwald and I were discussing it on Twitter. Nobody likes it, but it’s very costly to send an entire graphics and/or production crew. Sending the announcers isn’t really the problem.
Contributor at The Brotherly Game, SBN's Philadelphia Union blog
Really, given that the Union’s money is (rightly, I might add) prioritized in areas like their academy system doesn’t bother me. The alternative to having some matches called in a studio like this is not having them televised regionally at all. DC, San Jose, RSL…lots of their matches aren’t on regional television. I’d rather have the announcers in a studio than have to pay for Direct Kick, believe you me.

I do agree with this. I’d rather have to deal with this minor nuisance than any of those major nuisances.

And if/when that academy system develops a player from the ground up over the next ten years, we’re not going to be sitting around saying “well it’s great that they pulled this kid out of nowhere, but I’d rather the team had sent their announcers to Chicago that one time”.

Haha, that made me laugh.

I do wonder if he took a knock to the head. Didn’t appear to be walking gingerly on a groin or anything.
Contributor at The Brotherly Game, SBN's Philadelphia Union blog
he seemed fine when walking. No limp at all, but he was fidgeting around with his head, at first i thought he was just checking for some blood
Thought so too. Looked like he was holding his mouth, I thought.
Contributor at The Brotherly Game, SBN's Philadelphia Union blog
I would say that is probably. I did not see him struggle walking, either.

something needs to be changed during halftime, we keep giving the ball away in the midfield and have little possession, at least from what I’m watching.
Yup. They’re rather fortunate that Chicago hasn’t gotten at least one.

I have heard “Mondragon” mispronounced. I have never heard it mispronounced “MondragRON.” Thanks, Fire announcers.
Ah, but when his status was in doubt in Frisco, Taylor Twellman did call him “MondraGROIN” (purposefully, of course). Maybe they thought that was his real name?

Can someone explain to me why can’t they do away with draws and just have shoot-outs at the end of every game? I feel like that’s a big downfall of soccer. Who wants to watch 90 minutes and then see a tie?

I like ties. I don’t get the complaining about them. Sometimes the teams are evenly matched. It makes the standings more interesting too.
And in the case of soccer, not having any OT keeps the games into perfect 2 hour windows.
I’d actually like to see the NHL get rid of the shootout and go back to having ties, plus seeing college football get rid of their OT.
The standings thing I can get. The thing that’s frustrating for me is watching 90 minutes of a game just to have a result that doesn’t produce an emotional reaction… When you get a win, you’re obviously elated. When you lose, you get down. When you tie… I don’t know what to do!

Something is going wrong right now
On the goal by Chicago, while yes Valdes and Mondragon weren’t on the same page a big fault was Migz, yet again. Watch this clip and watch how Migz is just casually walking up to the 18 allowing Pardo to fire on the rebound. Migz has been terrible this year but continues to get playing time and I don’t understand. Why not Richter in this case or Okugo who seems to have lost favor, even though for the most part he has performed well?
Next there were two points (not on any of the highlights) where shots were warranted but not taken. One was a player on the right side had the ball inside the box and had a fairly decent angle. A nice hard rip would have probably allowed us at least a rebound but instead a crap low pass was given and easily cleared away.
The second one was of course at the end of the game with Mwanga. Who has clipped this guys balls?Last year he woulda fired that shot without a hesitation, hell 6 weeks ago he woulda fired that shot without hesitation but as you can see last week he had several opportunities and chose the wrong decision every time, passing when shooting was required and vice versa, and it continued this week. That is a shot, even if it has to be with the left. There is no outlet for that pass and so another wasted opportunity.
I don’t know if Nowak is expressing taking closer shots or making sure there is an absolutely clear shot, but whatever is going on is hurting this team, not helping it.
