Philadelphia Union vs. Everton - Gamethread - Friendly
The English Premier League is coming to Philadelphia as last year's 7th place team, a for one night only Tim Howard-less Everton, comes to PPL Park to take on the Philadelphia Union. For Everton, this is a pre-season friendly and a trip similar to the Philadelphia Union's trip to Greece earlier in the season. For the Philadelphia Union, this is a mid-season friendly whose purpose I have yet to truly figure out. Kickoff at PPL Park is scheduled for 7:30 PM ET.
If you have not already, be sure to check out the following previews from The Brotherly Game staff: [ukchomper's Match Preview] [Wednesday Morning Union Freekicks] [Tim Howard Will Not Play Tonight]. Everton perspective: [Royal Blue Mersey]

I just realized Saha is not playing. The Chelsea fan in me is relieved.

Someone tell Marc Zumoff it is pronounced “Torr-es,” not “Tor-res.”

I would guess the Union will want to play Holder for 45 minutes.

It is hot as a witch’s tit and more humid than a sauna outside. Did Zac MacMath so much as break a sweat out there?

Good game by the Union
Valdes and Torres alone seem to be shutting down Everton and creating good chances.

Hernandez was apparently yellow carded for taking his shirt off after the goal.

so i have to say, with the game winding down
Zumoff has been pretty decent, has he done soccer before?
I do not believe he has done MLS, but according to Wikipedia, he did games for the now defunct Philadelphia Fever of the Major Indoor Soccer League.

Over on Royal Blue Mersey, they predicted a 3-1 Everton victory before the match, so now it is only natural they blame the weather (see the third comment after the minute markers) .
I’m very proud of our boys and how they played tonight, notwithstanding all the dis/advantages and excuses. They didn’t play their first team. We didn’t play our first team. They weren’t match fit. We had children, very talented children, on the pitch.

Thomas, my point about the weather was more that in the late stages of the second half it killed the players. You could see it from the lazy challenges that resulted in more fouls. Everton played most of the game without any issues, and should have done a better job there. I’m not saying Everton deserved to win, but I think a draw was a fair result as both teams had a few chances manufactured, but were unable to score. The Union did well to capitalize on what was probably the biggest mistake of the game, which is why they won, not because they dominated the entire game.
