This is frustrating. Daniel is such an asset to our team, but since we just signed Old Serbian he’s getting playing time, Daniel has earned IMO. Best starting XI should be, Mondragon, Harvey, Valdes, Califf, Williams, Carroll, Daniels, M. Farfan, Okugo, Ruiz, Mwanga. That should maintain our strong defense while adding a punch to the offense. Maybe change Carroll and Mapp.

This is hard to watch

Why did we get the Old Serb? And what is with not playing Mwanga? Mapp is a blessing/curse with him running everywhere covering nowhere.
Sloppy game and too many offsides between Mapp/Ruiz/JackM

The Serb has been way worse than Naka but at least Kyle has been showing some signs of improvement.

wtf was Mac doing?? Put Mwanga on the field. At least he’s a forward who wants to score.

How bad are the Union right now?

Well, I am set to watch a half of a Bob Bradley coached team over them at the moment.

that my friends was shit

Ruiz is tired and worthless tonite. Old Serbian looks the same, rubbery legs and a bad touch. Jac Mac, just wow. You can’t be gun shy there. Looked like Mwanga might come in, that makes me happy. Hopefully daniel too sooner then later. We can win this, we just need some more energy and some damn finishing. New game in the second half Union! Doop!

Nice short cross from Mapp lead to Paunovic in the center of the box

took it in with his chest and finished it off neatly with the second touch.

Of course Bob Bradley has no ideas. Does nothing.

This is perhaps the most lobsided 2-goal game I have ever seen. Landon Donovan’s “miracle” goal against Algeria was one of the worst things that ever happened to the USMNT. Fire Bob Bradley.

Ugh. I hate to admit it but this is looking more and more true by the match.

Yup. Just basically like for like. Changes nothing about the team. Not more attacking. Just more of the same. Typically conservative and uninspired.

THIS SO MUCH

I wanted him out after the Ghana defeat, I can only hope he’s shown the door after this.

Putting in Bornstein when he hasn’t played well in… ages? Yoinks.

It’s true. The guy really brings nothing. He’s not an idiot or anything. He’s mediocre. He generally makes the obvious decisions ok, but has almost never done anything inspired or overly interesting. As long as he’s there, the team will continue to be mediocre.

And US Soccer will still fail to see why any of this important. They won’t get why getting thrashed by the only team that’s any threat to you in your federation is a really bad thing and a bad sign for. They’ll act like they did a pretty good job by just getting to the finals, which is obviously a joke.

Also, Lichaj has to put his hand up and Luis Suarez that Dos Santos shot away right?

The announcers are exactly the problem with US Soccer. “Lots of positives to take here.” “Bob Bradley made some really good decisions like playing Freddy Adu.” That’s what Sunil Gulati and his boy will be telling each other.

Just lavishing on the praise when the team just got destroyed in a cup final.

If Wynalda doesn’t speak his mind, I will have lost all respect for that guy. There was a time when he would call out this team after something that like. Hopefully he’ll do it again

Playing Freddy Adu was a really good decision. Problem is, he should have done it sooner in the Gold Cup. And once he finally came to his senses, it was the only good decision he did make all tournament.

Bob Bradley screwed up in the World Cup against Ghana by playing Ricardo Clark and Robbie Findley. He screws up again here. The U.S. Men’s National Team needs better if they are ever going to progress anywhere. And like you said, the U.S. will spin this into a positive by claiming they got to the finals. To be their party pooper, they got there by beating Canada, losing to Panama, barely beating Guadeloupe, beating Jamaica, and beating Panama who played one of the shittiest soccer games I have ever seen. I’m sorry, beating those teams by 1 and 2 goal margins is not impressive. It is an embarrassment. Mexico were a better side all tournament long and this game should not have been a surprise to anyone who saw them play this tournament and then saw the U.S. play. The U.S. needs to go out and overhaul their players and their coach. Let’s start with the coach. Fire Bob Bradley.

Exactly. They were overwhelming favorites to make the final and probably always will be. This is essentially a one game tournament for the US and that’s the Mexico game. Same deal for Mexico. They would have been bitterly disappointed with this this tournament if they lost the finals.

Not getting to the finals would have been a disaster. A finals appearance is just barely meeting expectations.

I wondered how that game would have played out if Steve Cherundolo didn’t get hurt in the first 10 minutes…their defense was out of sorts with Lichaj and Bornstein

It’s not like Mexico didn’t have a bunch of chances even before Cherundolo was off. There’s no doubt his presence was missed especially considering how bad Bornstein was, but I don’t think the loss of one guy can be blamed for four unanswered goals.

i know this is a mexican dominated crowd

but couldn’t they have gotten an American announcer for the closing ceremonies?

by ColeStevens on Jun 25, 2011 11:17 PM EDT reply actions

If the Americans won, I’m sure they would have.

It’s not an American tournament. So I see no problem with doing to trophy presentation in the winning nation’s language.

Anyway… Good for the Union tonight. That was a gutty win.

The difference between Peter Nowak and Bob Bradley is that Bradley has no clue who is best players are. I think Nowak does, but just refuses to start them.

Agreed. As much as I ripped the Union in that first half, from the looks and sounds of it, I missed a pretty darn good 2nd half from them.

Honestly I think the problem with US Soccer

is that we’re not that good. Bradley’s not a good coach but he’s hardly the problem. Our talent pool at striker and centerback is barebones compared to a team like Mexico.

by phillyhoosfan on Jun 26, 2011 9:52 AM EDT reply actions

Yeah that’s certainly a problem

Both the players and Bradley are big problems. Gulati needs to pull a Paul Holmgren and completely nuke the team.
