The rumors you have heard are true: the Philadelphia Union are in negotiations to host Real Madrid this summer at Lincoln Financial Field as part of the MLS-sponsored World Football Challenge.
Word has it there are various reasons why SEPTA would not plan to rebuild Lamokin, or look into creating a closer, more viable and convenient station for commuters to PPL Park. One of the reasons being cited: High crime rate. I think that’s the point.

With the announcement of two high-profile exhibition matches, Reading United provided another example of its expanding national reputation. Reading is set to play the United States Under-17 National Team on May 22, followed by the New York Cosmo’s Under-23 team two months later. The Harrisburg City Islanders and Philadelphia Union are already scheduled to visit Exeter’s Don Thomas Stadium in the coming weeks.
The partnership between the Philadelphia Union and Reading United AC, the PDL affiliate of the Union, is one that Union fans would do well to keep an eye on, as several of the players from last year’s roster are currently plying their trade in the MLS. All signs are pointing toward the Union's playing host to international soccer power Real Madrid this summer. A formal announcement could come later this week, but a soccer source indicated that the two are expected to meet July 23 at Lincoln Financial Field.

They come for all sorts of reasons — to see the ruins of this one-time Central American capital, to climb the picturesque volcanoes that surround the city, and to get a taste of a region known as the land of eternal spring.
May 18, 2011 - Andrea Pirlo, who spent ten years with AC Milan, said goodbye to the Italian club on Wednesday, realizing that he wasn't going to be signed to a contract extension, as Milan were only prepared to offer him a one-year deal. Pirlo missed four months of the season due to injury, and with the scudetto winning club eager to shift toward a slightly younger squad, it seems there is no longer a place for the 31 year old midfielder.
For the first 25 minutes on Saturday, it looked like it might be a very good night for the Philadelphia Union. They were not just dominating the home...
