My new idea, help me out. "DOOP for the Troops"

[Editor's Note: In line with the Brotherly Game's wish to help charitably whenever possible, this fanpost is front page'd]

To my Fellow Sons of Ben:

With the great success of 'Stache Bash' supporting Help Kick Hunger, I couldn't help but think of the great privilege we have as a group to help others. Our sense of passion and generosity has helped to feed families in the area in their time of need and has garnered plenty of positive press within the community. Not bad for a bunch of hooligans, eh? Raising as much money as we did to donate to the Bernadine Center should be a reminder of how our efforts can reach far beyond The River End.

Now let me briefly introduce myself and state my intentions for reaching out to all of you.

My name is Matt Brokaw, a proud SoB and season ticket holder of our Philadelphia Union (Section 138, Row L, Seat 23). I was immensely inspired by 'Stache Bash, and I would like to set up another fundraising effort on behalf of the Sons of Ben. I admit, as of right now my idea is a bit unrefined, but I believe it is an idea more than worth putting forth into action. I have always thought that there is no better cause to support than that of the men and women who were injured fighting for our country.

'DOOP for the Troops' is my idea for a fundraising effort by the Sons of Ben to support two immensely important organizations, The Wounded Warrior Project and The Fisher House.

Star-divide

The Wounded Warrior Project is an organization which helps soldiers of our generation who have been wounded during their selfless service by means of mental, physical, and economic support. The WWP helps to restore a balance in the lives of the men and women who are devoted to fighting to maintain the balance within our civilian lives we take for granted everyday.

The Fisher House is another organization which donates homes, built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers for loved ones of the wounded troops to stay (without any cost) while they receive treatment and recover. Certainly these warriors deserve the comfort of having family close by during their recovery, just as the families of these warriors deserve the proper hospitality during such a hardship.

Please feel free to check out each respective organization's website (woundedwarriorproject.org, fisherhouse.org) in order to gain more perspective of what a truly huge impact these organizations have on the lives of the troops who we are forever indebted to.

I have created an e-mail address to receive all suggestions, or any other help anyone is willing to offer. (DOOPforthetroops@gmail.com)

So, I am reaching out to you all. Please help me in my efforts to make my good idea, our great deed.

Ad finem fidelis,

Matt Brokaw

You don’t happen to be the section leader do you? I saw him introducing himself but didn’t meet him.

Yeah I’m bad with designs, but I could think about it.

Haha, well I know I’m not in charge, but if you came up with a design or two I’m sure nobody would be against it. This one has extra potential because it rhymes!

I would love it if you were able to help me get a design idea together, my skills in photoshop are very limited, so I’m not gunna turn down help from a “dabbler” like yourself!

Can’t wait to hear back from you and maybe we can start putting together some ideas!

E-mail me at my handle @gmail. Let me know what ideas you were thinking of if you had anything in mind already.

I would also like to help if I can.

Is there a facebook page set up for this yet? Or will the updates be through Sons of Ben or the Stache Bash pages? I feel like a facebook page is a great way to get the information out to people.

This is not an official charity event.

It’s an idea proposed by Matt. The Sons of Ben are not yet involved in this proposal.

as scott said, as of right now this is just an idea. i have a plan in my head, but i want a go ahead of the ones who organize SoB and all that before i start with a facebook page and all of that.

in the mean time i would love if someone could help me get together a logo, or shirt. that way if we do get the go ahead from the SoB we will already have had things prepared.

please feel free to conact me with the email address from the post (doopforthetroops@gmail.com), my facebook, Matt Brokaw, or my twitter account @mattbrokaw

Thanks for all the support everyone, I never expected this much, so this is a great start!

Not that this isn’t a good idea, but I think it’s been a strength of the supporter charity efforts that they’ve been generally single issue focused.

There’s a lot of deserving charities out there and certainly this is one… but I think being focused on a single issue, like these efforts have been so far, is very powerful.
