Internet is poor right now at Rutgers...
So I only have the u20 one on. Watched the game against Argentina, feel patriotic enough.

Joe Gyau is so good.. I see him scoring in this one. He should be cracking the first team at Hoffenheim soon.

Is he number 7? I lost the feed on ESPN 3 during the pregame formations and what not.

Yep. Color Commentary guy seems really knowledgeable about US youth soccer, he just described the entire setup of the US Soccer Development Academy.. maybe he reads Home Grown Hopefuls!

It’d be awesome if he did.
Can you provide translations of some of the interesting things they say?

Lots of good soccer tonight. Aside from the two USA games, there will be a US Open Cup game between Portland and Chivas at 10 PM, streamed live on the Timbers’ website. Mexico will play Venezuela at 11 PM, live on Univision.

Color Commentator is actually Giovanni Savarese, Venezuelan of Italian descent who made 85 appearances for MetroStars and 27 appearances for Revolution in late 90s.
He’s currently the Director of the NY Cosmos Academy, that certainly explains why he’s so knowledgeable about US youth soccer.

Mmmmm… called it. GOLAZO from Joe Gyau, whose name the commentators can’t seem to pronounce correctly no matter how hard they try.
#7, plays with Reserves of TSG Hoffenheim in Germany.

That last one makes it 2-0, this game could get ugly quickly.

GOAL! Gyau makes it 2-0.
Cuts in from the left and curls it into the bottom right.

Commentators appreciating the attacking, attractive style that the US plays, but they realize that we still need to see how they match up with an opponent with more quality.

Absolutely no defense from Suriname. Pretty clear which side is stronger, faster and of a higher quality.

GOAL! 3-0
Suriname getting embarrassed now. Ball just creeps over goal line, may have been an own goal by the Suriname goalkeeper, or could be goal from #9 Conor Doyle of Derby County in England’s Championship. Came off excellent cross from #10 Kelyn Rowe, UCLA attacking midfielder who should be top 3 pick in next year’s SuperDraft.

MacMath sees his first shot fired his way in the entire game, in the 41st minute. Commentators hailing Gyau’s individual ability.

YELLOW CARD for Union's Okugo
Amobi is the first player to receive a yellow card for either team.

Poor play there by Okugo.
Didn’t move at all.

Savarese talks about MLS expansion, and how league wants to cap teams at 20. Naturally he stresses Cosmos (his employers) should be 20th team

Commentators also recalling Shot Heard around the World by Paul Cagliuri against T&T in 1990. That’s how dominant the US have been, that they’re talking about that..

HALFTIME
US leads Suriname 3-0. Americans have completely dominated this one so far.
Meanwhile, Paraguay leads the senior USMNT 1-0 at halftime.

Okugo comes out of the game
Amobi, who had a yellow card, comes off for Moises Orozco, defensive mid who plays with Tigres de la UANL in the Mexican Primera Division, although he hasn’t played yet with the first team AFAIK

Reactions on MacMath and Okugo:
MacMath: Not much to say. Grabbed the only “shots” that came towards him.
Okugo: Yellow card, eh. Showed some leadership in directing the defense and midfield. Off at half. Mixed day for Amobi.

I could see Rongen resting Okugo in the second game, to make sure he doesn’t get a second yellow, which would make him miss the all-important quarterfinal. If this scoreline holds the US will have all but qualified already for the knockout stage

Makes a lot of sense. Plus Suriname wasn’t attacking even a little anyway, why waste his health (potentially)?

Most impressive player this game has been Joe Gyau.
Great speed and quickness, combined with what seems to be quality finishing. Deadly. Two knocks are his passing and decision making. Wants to take on the defenders a bit too much and is only an average passer.
Still, he’s been fantastic so far.

Omar Salgado comes on for goal scorer Bobby Wood.

Salgado in for Bobby Wood
I’ve been waiting to see Salgado, who is young for this cycle and will be able to play in the 2013 U20 World Cup as well. Still a great attacking talent, he’ll play on the right wing.

RED CARD: #20 on Suriname.
Flies studs up, from behind, on USMNT #13. Straight red.

Another foul by Suriname captain, should’ve been red. Gets away with yellow, but would’ve been red if Suriname wasn’t already down to 10 men.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL
Kelyn Rowe #10 gets a deserved goal after a wonderful game. Deadly finish.

Then Rowe gets subbed out, for CB Sebastien Ibeagha, who is at Duke University but is a Houston Dynamo academy product and will in all likelihood sign with them as a homegrown at some point.

Comprehensive 4-0 victory for the U.S. under-20 national team. They essentially qualify for the next round with this win. MacMath gets high marks for staying awake in this one, Okugo got a yellow and left at halftime, but still played fairly well. Nevertheless, the quarterfinal game will be win-or-go-home to qualify for the U-20 WC.
