Union Debate: Off Topic Tidbits 11/16-11/23/2011
This is the second ever Union Debate. I posted the first one about 19 days ago, just before my concussion occurred, so apologies for the lapse in publishing a second one of these fanposts.
My hope is that these drive discussion and activity up on this site, something that I feel is necessary for the Brotherly Game to become a bigger part of the Philly sports blogosphere/sports media sphere. The following is not a shot at our readers, but simply an observation: the commenting is spotty. There will be days where I'll see a ton of comments, then the Brotherly Game will go a week without a single one. My hope is to see our readers engage themselves more in the site, which helps drive each of us at the Brotherly Game to do more and do it all at a higher level of quality.
A secondary hope is that this fanpost becomes popular enough where someone in the community decides to head the posting and moderation of the thread. It'll make my life easier and allow me to focus more on the rest of the site.
Have at it guys. Remember, no discussion of the Philadelphia Union or MLS. Everything else, within reason. Try to keep the family feel of the site in tact.

Misc:
Just got MW3, and I’m happy with it overall. I’m a sucker for campaign mode, so I always play that first, and I enjoyed it. Multiplayer was frustrating at first. I feel like they made it ridiculously easy to aim/kill. Anyone else feel that way?
I keep hearing good things about Skyrim, but I’ve never played any of those games in the Oblivion series. Leaning towards getting it, but I’m not sure. Thinking about purchasing Asassins Creed: Revelations later as well.
I imagine a number of you are Eagles fans as well as Union fans. Obviously, I’m a big Eagles fan. But I’m not sure that all you guys comment on BGN, so what’re your thoughts on Andy Reid / the Eagles so far this year? Is it time the Eagles remove Reid?
Anyone have any badass plans for Thanksgiving? I’ve always wanted to try deep-frying a turkey, but I lack a deep fryer.

MW3 campaign is awesome, but it COD always has a good campaign. I dont have BF3 so i cant compare online mode, but from experience they dont have good campaign modes. Skyrim is an awesome game, and it has about 300+ days of game play before they gave up testing it, so basically the game never ends for you. So i would say it is worth getting.
Skyrim
Before this one I hadn’t played any of the games in the series, but Skyrim is amazing. Definitely worth the money, at least for me. New Assassins Creed looks awesome as well, I’m going to have to get that eventually. As for MW3 I have not gotten it and probably never will. I loved the first MW, but 2 was just so bad that I could not bring myself to purchase Black Ops even though I heard a lot of good things about it.
One of the kids on my floor has Skyrim.
Played it a bit. Absolutely addicting.

Skyrim
It’s really an incredible game. I think it’s a lot harder than Oblivion so far but twice as stunning. I can’t put it down.
I don’t even know what to think about the Eagles anymore. I blame the coaching, I have to. 4th quarter losses have been far too regular I think for it to just be noise. They have too much talent on this team. Andy Reid did far more with less earlier in the decade. He’s gotten too far away from his ‘win in the trenches’ mentality. I don’t think Watkins was a good pick, and it was too little too late. With Vick at QB we needed to revamp that line, we needed to spend at least 2 high round picks on the line and didn’t. Maybe not having a good DC has let him be exposed a little. I like Castillo, I think he’s an incredible coach, but this is a team that needs someone that knows what they are doing, Castillo is learning on the job.
Joe, the reason we shout "WE ARE" and the reason the answer will always be "PENN STATE"
I just got Battlefield 3 so I've been playing that
I prefer the strategy and teamwork of that game to COD.
Music – I’m a big hip-hop head, and this is a pretty busy time. RIght now in rotation I got
Childish Gambino – Camp (Good debut)
Phonte – Charity Starts at Home (One of the best albums of the year)
Pac Div – The Div
Evidence – Cats and Dogs
I’m getting Doomtree’s No Kings next week, and by the end of the year I’ll definitely get the new albums from Common and The Roots.
On a non-rap tip, I really can’t wait for the new Black Keys album. I have every one of the albums (minus the live album), including Blakroc.
yeah, thats what i hate about COD. You don’t need alot of teamwork, and your only objective is basically kill people. I prefer to have an objective and BF2 gave that to me so i hope its similar.
BF3 looks amazing.
COD is somewhat disappointing. Same engine, similar gameplay. They changed it to try to be a bit more like BF.

Never have gotten into them.
But I’ve only heard good things about them.

I can't.
That game nearly ruined my freshman year of college.

It enhanced that year.

I play. The game can be addicting. I’ve never been able to figure out the allocation money rules for MLS sides so I play as Sporting Lisbon.

I don't think that the rules are exactly the same as the real ones...
so it is a little confusing. My go to club is Porto, but I’m playing as the US head coach right now.

I’m in my third year and am lucky enough to be in charge of Uruguay, which is nice because I don’t have to compete against Brazil for a WC spot since they’re hosting. I can’t get past Porto to win the Leage though.

I think one of the biggest challenges in getting increased commenting on this site is how ingrained BigSoccer is as the nexus of soccer discussion
but considering how much time I already spend on SBN, primarily over at Camden Chat (where I’m approaching 16,000 comments, apparently I need a life), I will certainly try to step up my participation here. A lot of the content is great, and a more active community would really help take this site to the next level.
BigSoccer is full of internet trolls.
I only go on it to talk to a couple of people at this point.

Big Soccer causes brain cells to explode.
Here’s a fun idea for 2012, Scooter. How about a tBG best of BS edition? There are so many trolls there now, that the inmates have lost control of the asylum. I think some of the better trolling posts should be colated into one amazing comedy thread. Before I left BS, some of the better highlights were someone in June wanting LT9 gone after he didn’t get one of the 6 at TFC, and another defended whining about SoB without actually participating. When I asked how his “internet with no contact” policy was working out in his dating life, I was branded an “elitist” and all the trolls grabbed their torches and pitchforks en masse.
A troll feeding question of the day/week might be fun too. If BS has become that much of an intellectual wasteland, we might as well have some comedy fun with it at least…
My first comment was actually made after not visiting Big Soccer for a few months
that sounds horrible
Facebook?
Have you considered trying to use Facebook ads for the site? I have no idea how much it would cost, but I’m sure you could easily target Union fans. I don’t think many casual fans know that there are Union blogs out there. The content is already solid, so if you attract more people to the site, the posts will increase.
