Union Debate: New, Weekly Off Topic Fanpost For The tBG Community
In an effort to bring more of a community feel to the site, and more activity to the fanpost area, I'm introducing Union Meeting. This fanpost, and future versions of it, are for off topic discussions, aka nothing involving the Philadelphia Union. The purpose of this fanpost is to allow everyone to get to know one another a bit better and encourage more discussion throughout the site. It is also to direct soccer related discussion to only articles, thus allowing readers to expand their discussion topics.
Feel free to talk about anything, within reason. The Brotherly Game has been a place where anyone can comment without fear of internet trolls, high volumes of profanity, sexual content or otherwise. I'd like to keep it that way, along with avoiding personal attacks about color, creed, religion, gender, sexuality or anything else that could possible be turned into an offensive comment.
So, go ahead and comment. Make these threads what you wish them to be, they're for you and completely by you.

Good idea. Not sure if you’re aware of it, but we have a similar off-topic thread-type at BGN.
Getting it started…
Battlefield 3 or MW3? (Xbox 360)

I want to get BF3, don't have the money right now.
My roommate is getting MW3.

I just picked up BF3...
And I admit I’ve only had a chance to play the first few missions of the campaign, but so far I’m a bit underwhelmed.. Obviously no one buys BF3 for the campaign so I’m reserving any serious judgement for the multi-player, and definitely looking forward to 20+ players on the screen. The campaign so far has been very linear and lacks the fun dialogue of previous MW games to this point. I’d be curious to hear what other people have to say though…

All I've heard is that the multiplayer is incredibly intese.

I played the demo for BF3 and I wasn’t really impressed. I think that’s because I was unfamiliar with the controls/game-play style, though. I’m used to the MW series, so I guess I’m just used to that style. I heard BF3 was really cool and better than MW in some respects, but I’m reluctant to make the switch (or pay for both).

So Who is a Phive Phor Phive Philly Phan?
I’m one of them but in my area (berks county) I see a ton of Phillies, Flyers, 76ers stuff but the area falls short on MLS clubs in general and Eagles fans. Like picking the best is wrong or something.

I am, despite my hate for the NBA.
I’ll pay attention to and watch the Sixers, but hate the NBA.

Yeah, the NBA is so flawed IMO. I’m actually going to miss watching the Sixers this year, because it’s always funny to make fun of how bad they are.

What is this Phive Phor Phive Philly Phan stuff you speak of?

Five for five, versus the former four for four talk of Philadelphia.
4for4 used to mean Eagles, Phillies, Sixers, Flyers
5for5 means those four, plus the Union.

I consider myself a 5 for 5 guy. Obviously, the Eagles are my passion obsession.
If I had to rank them (by favorite to watch, generally):
Eagles
Flyers
Phillies
Union
Sixers

interesting
mines Eagles, Union, Phillies, Flyers, Sixers
and the Union and Eagles are damn close.

Nope, hate basketball
Basketball is the only team sport I find entirely unwatchable.
Although I can understand your frustration on the Eagles thing. I’ll never understand why the Eagles (and Flyers) fanbase is so concentrated around Philly, but has to fight a losing battle to East Rutherford and Pittsburgh once you get more than an hour away.
Flyers, Phillies, Union, Eagles, Phantoms, Wings.
There’s definitely an anti-Philly sentiment once you get 45 minutes away from the city in any direction – I went to school in Lancaster County and people in that area seemed to align itself more with Baltimore and Pittsburgh. Once you hit Allentown you start seeing more Giants and Yankees gear. Maybe 45 minutes is the amount of distance you can drive and not feel obligated to support the nearest team and root for the next closest team that has more championships?

What really gets me is the people who live in places like Collegeville and still root for the Steelers over the Eagles. It’s bad enough that this area is filled with western PA refugees who root for Philly teams to fail, but people who were born here and could probably see the city skyline from a nearby hilltop? I don’t get why Philly has such a huge local backlash, probably more than any major city in my experience. When I lived in Upstate New York, people hated NYC, but that’s over 200 miles, yet there are people on the fringes of Montgomery county, or in Wilmington DE that hate Philly far more than the average Buffaloian hates NYC.
Flyers, Phillies, Union, Eagles, Phantoms, Wings.
I’m five for five in this order:
Union
Flyers
Phillies
Eagles
Sixers
There’s definitely a big drop off from my top 4 to the 5th, but I try to make it to a few Sixers games a year no matter what their record is. I’ve never been a big NBA fan, but I’ve always loved watching college basketball and I enjoyed following the careers of the guys I watched when they were in school. Now most players aren’t putting in a full 4 years, so I find myself caring less and less about both. I’ve got at least one heavily-worn jersey from each Philly team in my closet (even if they include Ville Leino, Freddy Mitchell, Brian Dawkins, and Pepe Sanchez).

Awesome stuff, TT. Unless I’m looking at this wrong (I can’t tell if that’s the Pepsi section on the other side of the field) I see you’re by the players tunnel. Manage to get any gear?!
by PhiladelphiaEagles on Nov 3, 2011 2:35 AM EDT up reply actions
Nah
I am pretty sure there was a make a wish kid in the first row right by the tunnel and he got everything. Thought that was cool of the players and the fans around him. A couple leaches tried to get in there but we made a pretty good barrier to block them out.
