PrintAfter a very impressive win on the road at Seattle, the Philadelphia Union (11-7-14) will play their last home game of the season against the almost always struggling Toronto FC (6-13-13). With a win or a draw today, the Union would clinch a playoff spot. Should the Union lose, then a New York Red Bulls loss to Sporting Kansas City would also clinch a playoff spot for the Union. Kickoff at PPL Park is scheduled for 4:08:00 PM ET.

Philadelphia Union will clinch a berth in the MLS Cup Playoffs if:
they defeat Toronto FC (Oct. 15)
OR
there is a winner in the Portland-Houston game (Oct. 14) AND
New York lose to Sporting KC (Oct. 15).

Yeah, I think they are wrong.
The only thing I am unsure about is a scenario where the Union and D.C. United are in a multiple team tie-breaker with Sporting Kansas City and/or Houston Dynamo.
If I had been alerted of this error from the PR people, I would have investigated and come up with a firm conclusion. Maybe at half time.

yeah, if the union dont get a point in the last two games, and DC wins all of them we each have 47 points, so me not knowing the tie breaker (head to head or GD?) we will have to atleast tie this match and have NY lose to clinch i assume. This is just at a glance right now.
It would have to be a multi-team tie breaker involving D.C. United, as they are the only team currently outside the playoffs that can catch the Union and the Union have the head-to-head tie-breaker alone with D.C.

a point deletes D.C.’s chance of catching us, and a NY loss stops them from catching us to, and i think we clinch with that.
If D.C. drops points anywhere, it does not matter what NYRB does.
I’m thinking a part of the hold up could be that D.C. still has one match left with Sporting Kansas City.

They just posted an updated scenarios and still say NYRB matters. Maybe there is a scenario with at least them and D.C. United and the Union that knock the Union out?

i dont see how, a point puts us at 48 points the best DC can do is 47. NY can get 49, but even then we will only drop to the 4th wild card spot at worst, because portland can only get 46.
Oh yeah, any scenario where the Union are eliminated involves them losing their next two games. A draw or win today guarantees them the playoffs, that much is certain.

actually, i might understand the NY losing part. cause if they lose they cant get to 47 points, so its only at best a tie between DC and the Union. and the union with the tie breaker
I ran a 3-way tie with Union, D.C., and NYRB. Union get in.
I ran a 4-way tie with Union, D.C., NYRB, and SKC, Union still get in.
I quit. Maybe I am misunderstanding the tiebreakers or maybe I am just missing a scenario. But I give up trying to figure out the scenarios that see the Union eliminated.

Henry acted like it was incidental, but he saw Espinoza and had a good 3-4 seconds to move out of the way and not hit him in the back. It was an act of retaliation.
