I had adopted DC for awhile in the 90s. Feels so good to be wearing a soccer jersey with Philadelphia on it.

Yeah, I tried that for about a year but I couldn’t stick with it. Much easier with a team to call our own now.

Came right here from the Eagles blog.

I could never really get into soccer…probably because of the lack of a Philly team. Well, I’m going to watch tonight and see if I like it.

Oh, and the New York Red Bulls? They really advertise that blatantly?

I was the same way, but I happened to catch a couple English and Italian league games on TV a little over a year ago and I’ve been hooked on the sport ever since. Still not into MLS, but I’m pretty sure the Union will change that.

I wonder sometimes if that isn’t on purpose. Snider wants the casual fan to see more Sixers, since they won’t go looking for info, and I think he also doesn’t want the Flyers to feel as though they’re under as much media pressure, etc. as maybe they should be in a large hockey market.

by Ben Feldman on Mar 25, 2010 11:13 PM EDT up reply actions

I think Snider was pissed at the Sixers because having two teams in the Wac meant that the Phantoms had to move. He made that staement before they left and he kinda seemed pissed, but he lives and dies by the Hockey teams.

Yea. you get stuck in a pattern of being mediocre and you need to get a high lottery pick and draft the right player to get out of it. Then you need to get the right pieces around that player. Really the only team to not have a star on their team and win the championship lately was Detroit.

by Ben Feldman on Mar 25, 2010 11:41 PM EDT reply actions

These Seattle boys sure do roll around a lot…

by JasonB on Mar 25, 2010 11:41 PM EDT via mobile reply actions

and onto stoppage time we go.

by Wet Luzinski on Mar 25, 2010 11:45 PM EDT reply actions

they haven’t played all that bad considering they have been down one man.

by Ben16 on Mar 25, 2010 11:45 PM EDT reply actions

from the looks of things they better start practicing with 10 guys all the time.

by Wet Luzinski on Mar 25, 2010 11:46 PM EDT up reply actions

Seriously...

I think we’ve seen some positives with sone guys tonight… But the cards have to stop, they’re killers.

by JasonB on Mar 25, 2010 11:48 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

No, as has been said before I think there are definitely positives to take out of this despite the result.

by Ben Feldman on Mar 25, 2010 11:47 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah they’ve kept working this second half

by JasonB on Mar 25, 2010 11:47 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions

also shows some bright adjustment at the half.

by Wet Luzinski on Mar 25, 2010 11:48 PM EDT up reply actions

seattle also played down to the union 10 men in the second half.

just about to say that but i did not want to upset anyone haha

by Ben16 on Mar 25, 2010 11:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Not the worst way to start, all things considered. It sucks we have to wait so long to see the Union play again.

April 10th vs DC United. That gives me a shitload of time to fill. Expect creative posting.

2 week break! why not just start the season then.

by j reed on Mar 25, 2010 11:54 PM EDT up reply actions

exactly but i think this will benefit the union. get that hard first game out of the way, adjust and work out more kinks.

Good first game, no real complaints from it.

And Xavier-Kansas St. is a one point game with 12 seconds or so left. Off to watch that. I enjoyed chatting with you guys.

by mattjg on Mar 25, 2010 11:49 PM EDT reply actions

Hey, we didn't expect it to be easy, did we?

There are some positives to take out of tonight, certainly. One thing Nowak needs to do is to get on his guys to cut out the dumb challenges (I’m looking at you, Toni Stahl), but maybe it was just nerves.

Onward and upward, boys!

by PhillyFriar on Mar 25, 2010 11:50 PM EDT reply actions

Stahl does deserve the b-slap of the game award. Nerves or no, his sendoff still means the Union still don’t really know what kind of team they have. There’s definitely a baseline aggressiveness, but it might be overstated given that they had to challenge so much defensively.

is he the Joe Morgan of MLS?

by Wet Luzinski on Mar 25, 2010 11:59 PM EDT up reply actions

i don’t know but his “It’s philly, you gotta win” comment must have been made in ignorance of the phillies 10000 losses

by j reed on Mar 26, 2010 12:05 AM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, he really wasn’t holding back on the Union. I mean, they’re not going to win the MLS Cup, but he’s making it sound like the team’s going to go 0-30-0.

Can’t expect much from the lead singer of Spin Doctors…

Well, not quite the way I would have hoped for it to go but not too bad.
Defense came unraveled and the offense just was not imposing enough.
Really impressed with Roger Torres and Alejandro Moreno.

Jack Mac looked good in the few minutes he saw as well.

Really unimpressed with the Costa Rican Myrie. He got turned inside out on the Sounders first goal. He was chasing the play the entire time and could not contain at all. Very frustrating.
